The medieval Christmas market in Taulignan, located in Drôme Provençale, is a festive event that immerses visitors in the atmosphere of the Middle Ages while celebrating the magic of Christmas. It takes place in the historic heart of the village, known for its picturesque narrow streets, ramparts, and eleven medieval towers.
During the event, the village’s streets and squares are adorned with medieval decorations and wooden chalets, creating a warm and authentic atmosphere. Visitors can discover nearly 110 artisans, including craftspeople and designers carefully selected for the quality of their work.
The booths offer a wide variety of handmade products, such as jewelry, leather goods, pottery, Christmas decorations, textile creations, and traditional treats; a glassblower, a blacksmith, and many other artisans are in attendance. It’s the perfect opportunity to find unique gifts and discover local craftsmanship.
The market also stands out for its many activities designed for the whole family. A medieval encampment offers a glimpse into life during that era, while archery demonstrations and introductory sessions invite visitors of all ages to participate. Pony rides, wooden games, and an eco-friendly carousel round out the activities on offer.
The atmosphere is enlivened by musicians, street performances, and entertainment inspired by the medieval world. At dusk on Saturday, a fire show adds a spectacular touch to the festivities and lights up the village’s narrow streets. On Sunday, a fireworks display will light up the sky over our beautiful medieval town. Santa Claus’s appearance also delights the children and adds to the festive spirit of the event.
As for treats, visitors can enjoy the refreshment stand and on-site dining, featuring comforting specialties such as spelt soup, mulled wine (hypocras), Christmas beer, French fries, and fried chicken... Just look for the medieval tavern!
Other food stands will be available throughout the village.
The Taulignan Medieval Christmas Market is thus much more than just a market: it’s a truly immersive experience that combines heritage, crafts, traditions, and a warm, friendly atmosphere. It allows visitors to enjoy a pleasant time with family or friends while rediscovering the charm of a Provençal village steeped in history. With free admission and a wide variety of activities, it’s a must-see event to kick off the Christmas festivities in a unique and magical atmosphere.
