Clinging to the hillside, the village of Vaunaveys-la-Rochette invites you on a journey through time. Its medieval streets reveal ramparts, towers, and Gothic gates, while the Massonnes bell tower offers a stunning panorama.
From anywhere you can come, the change of scenery is total between the medieval walls of Vaunaveys, kept by a round shaped tower and a bell tower with no nave : the Midi door opens the restored ramparts under a gothic vault to unveil the Saint Philomène chapel and, amongst the shaking shaped low houses, Notre Dame de Saint Denis and its half-timbering, ageless hovel marking the cross of lanes where we can believe we’ve seen an ox cart passing. Outside, we can discover Saint Roch (17th century) and the eight heads which scrutinize the horizon from the Massonnes hamlet’s church’s steeple, achieved in 1858.
