Description
City of Diane de Poitiers. The town offers a pleasant living environment and varied landscapes. The granite hillsides offer hiking trails leading to superb panoramic views of the Rhône and its tributary, La Galaure.
Saint-Vallier, a thousand-year-old town, is best known for being the birthplace of Diane de Poitiers, the legendary beauty and mistress of King Henri II, son of François I, who reigned from 1547 to 1574. The town's history dates back to Roman antiquity, leaving it with a rich heritage. Saint-Vallier was classified as a ‘Remarkable Heritage Site’ by the Ministry of Culture in 2020.
