Description

The Col de la Bataille, the southern gateway to the Vercors Drôme, offers spectacular views over the Bouvante valley. This pass, steeped in history, also saw the Tour de France cyclists pass through in 1987 and 1996.

The Col de la Bataille, the southern gateway to the Vercors Drôme, offers breathtaking panoramic views from its belvederes overlooking the Bouvante valley. Accessible by car in just 25 minutes, or by bike in around 1h30, this route is part of the Sublimes Routes du Vercors, and invites you to stop and admire the spectacular scenery from the lookouts set up along the way. Famous for having been crossed by Tour de France cyclists in 1987 and 1996, this pass is steeped in mysterious history. Some attribute its name to a medieval conflict between monasteries, others to religious clashes. The most likely theory is that the name "Bataille" refers to the opposing winds that clash in this unique location. A must-see for nature, adventure and history lovers!
