At the gateway to the Drôme Valley, the old town of Montoison offers a wide panorama (from the Pre-Alps to the Massif Central). Discover this medieval village with its tower and the remains of its castle.
The escapade begins by passing through the large Pavé Gate, the only entrance to the village until the 19th century, protected by a castle built in 1201 by the Poitiers, Counts of Valentinois. Restored during the Renaissance, it was used as a prison from 1795 during the Revolution. Its dismantled stones made it possible to build the church in 1838, and in 1842 the Calvary Tower, which has remained the emblem of the village. The village still celebrates, since 1889, the traditional "Feast of Cowherds and Ploughmen," a ritual celebration in the Drôme around agriculture and working the land.
