Sun, mountains, white water… many rivers with impressive gorges:
The river Bourne winds though the green landscapes of the Royans with the Bez, the Roanne and of course the Drôme rivers cut through the Diois, an region full of harmony and light. Even further south, the Eygues and the Ouvèze cross the Provençal landscapes of the Baronnies. |
The wind is present everywhere in the Rhône valley corridor, making it an ideal spot to practise sailing and windsurfing. These two water sports are essentially practised on the Rhône.
Rowing, on the other hand, is done both on the Rhône and the Isère.

Fishermen, cast your lines! The Drôme offers all sorts of possibilities for freshwater fishing from torrents cascading from the mountains to numerous streams favoured by brown trout, to the Rhône, renowned for “friture” (various smelt-like fish - tiny eperlans, goujons and gardons) and its carnivorous fish.
The department offers:
1850 km of rivers in the 1st category with populations of salmonidae, brown trout, rainbow trout, grayling; small freshwater cyprinidae: Eurasian minnow, varione, gudgeon.
600 kms of rivers in the 2nd category with populations of large fish: carp, carp breme, tench, barbell, chub; small white fish: roach, bleak and carnivorous fish: pike, zander, perch, eel, catfish
2700 ha of lakes and hydroelectric reservoirs with populations of large trout and other species.
68 ha of ponds.
Real fishing for sport can be done on specific runs, trout fishing with flies or lures, night carp fishing, fishing for catfish from boats on the Rhône.
Catch and release is more and more frequent, especially on certain portions, such as on the Vernaison river below the village of Echevis going towards the Grands Goulets.
