ALL ABOUT LAVENDER

Lavande de la Drôme

"HERE LAVENDER EMBALMS HEAVEN AND EARTH, IT DECEIVES SHADOW AND LIGHT”
wrote JEAN GIONO

Lavender is considered a cultural symbol for Provence thanks to its palette of colours, its perfume but also and especially for its properties. The history of lavender, of the former “baïassières” to today’s meticulous cultivation, punctuates the seasons and the lives of the people of this region while constituting a heritage which still holds riches to explore. Thus, reaching back for over a century, cultivation of this aromatic plant, has developed through man’s ingenuity and is today supported by high level scientific research.

Lavender fields have created exceptional landscapes whether alongside wheat fields on the plateaux, vineyards in the plains, olive or fruit trees in terraces. This diversity invites a visit to lavender country with its perfume, colour and light.

HOW TO RECOGNISE THEM ?
Lavande Aspic Lavande fine Lavandin
It can be differentiated from fine lavender by its broad leaves and long floral scape with several spikelets
True Lavender or Lavender Angustifolia can be distinguished by its smaller size and its floral spike. Its essential oil, the most subtle, is coveted by perfume makers and laboratories.
This hybrid is a cross between true lavender and spica (Lavandula angustifolia and Lavandula latifolia) and has a dense, round shape.
